Lamar Area Attractions


Situated on the edge of Missouri and the prairies of Kansas, Lamar represents the smaller town where many would like to live.  Additionally, Lamar boasts of historic residents ranging from lawman Wyatt Earp to President Harry S Truman.


  • Harry S Truman Birthplace
    "Visit the birthplace home of the only Missourian ever elected President of the United States - Harry S Truman. Born May 8, 1884, in a downstairs bedroom of a small frame house in Lamar, Harry Truman was the son of John Anderson and Martha Ellen (Young) Truman."
  • Prairie State Park
    Prairie State Park, at nearly 4,000 acres, preserves Missouri’s largest remaining tall grass prairie.  PSP offers camping, hiking, and viewing of diverse wild life including bison, elk, deer, prairie chickens, numbers prairie flowers and much more.
  • George Washington Carver National Monument
    Diamond, MO served as the boyhood home of Dr. Carver.  This monument is more than a statue, it also is a park dedicated to Dr. Carver's memory and his achievements.
